I based this part of the project on the directions to build the Crypt of the Phantasm by the guys at imagineerieing. I will give you a general list of the lumber and parts that I have used but yours may differ based on the size of the car port you use.

The key difference between this construction and the crypt is that this is just a facade of a building, much like a building on a movie set. I really wanted to create the illusion of an old run down asylum of the 1930's. The other function I had to have was storage ability. This had to be able to be broken down to store in my kick out on my studio where I do all my work during the winter months. Note: All pics are thumb nailed, double click to enlarge.

OK, Following the same idea used in the crypt of the phantasm, make your frames. The first frame I made two for the right and left sides. The center pic is going to be hinged onto the first to create and entry way into the asylum and the third pic should be obvious as the peak of the illusion. What you can't see here is that on the top of the frame in the left pic and on the bottom of the frame in the right pic, I added a 1" x 4" board perpendicular or in an L shape so that when you stacked the pieces together you could fasten them with screws adding to the overall stability of the structure. (If you look closely at the picture below on the right you can make it out.

The pic above left is the pattern I am using on this project. To give the illusion of a large building, I measured my blocks at 14" wide and 10" high. Of course to make it look like a real building I staggered the grout lines. The middle pic demonstrates my use of Dap latex wood filler to repair the damage I caused when I lost control of my Dremel router. Finally, in the far right pic I have routed out all of the lines to form my blocks. I routed about 2/3rds of the way into the depth of the foam board which is 1/2" thick.
