The Pumpkin Patch
What Halloween haunt would be complete without a
pumpkin patch!?!  This page is solely devoted to
pictures of the patch for your enjoyment.
Here they are after 5 weeks, the
seedlings!  What you see here are
the seedlings for seven different
types of pumpkins, six different
gourds and acorn squash.
This is of course the new home
for those precious seedlings.  The
ground has been prepared and the
seedlings are in there.
Just a closer look, I planted 2 or 3
to a pile at 14" apart in the row
and then made the rows approx.
10' apart.  There are roughly 150
plants in there!
OK here they are just a week
later and the progress is obvious.
After transplanting, the seedlings
tripled their size in one day!
Oh yeah,  the list
1. Jack O Lanterns
2. Big Max
3. Luminas
4. Cinderellas
5. Baby Boos
6. Baby Pumpkins
7. Sugar Pumpkins
8. Swan Gourds
9. Snake Gourds
10. Small Bottle Gourds
11. Large Bottle Gourds
12. Ladle Gourds
13. Fancy Mixed Gourds
No Patch is complete without
appropriate decor!
Now this is progress!  Three weeks
in and the vines are actually starting
to run and get some length and
flowers have already begun to
appear.
These are the plants I started
from seed in the ground at the
time I planted the ones on the left
pic.  Even they have come up
nicely!
Well, now that I am back from vacation, I can get back to the work of tending the patch!  As
you can see it has grown quite well in 9 weeks.  Fruit is now forming as you can also see.  I
have spotted at least a dozen gourds and over a dozen pumpkins, at least 6 of which have
reached 8 inches in diameter.  It's very exciting.  Every morning I see numerous bees doing
their pollination thing.
Note:  All pictures on this site are thumb nailed.

Check back often to see the progress.
Now the vines are just taking over and pumpkins
and gourds are a poppin'.  The vines have grown
right up the fences and posts and there is nothing I
can do to stop them.  You can see I strung some
yellow rope just to support the pumpkins growing on
these vines.
